In Canada the AVLA will provide a license on behalf of copyright owners to allow duplication or broadcasts while ensuring that owners receive compensation for use of their sound recordings and music videos. Anyone who duplicates sound recordings, music videos or broadcasts music videos require a license from the AVLA or authorization from the owner or holder of the copyright. Collect a fee from the venue operators where music is being broadcasted live or recorded music is being played. This ensures the artists and publishers get compensated financially for any public communication or performance of their music. This fee is often charged in addition to the rental of the hall or it will be included in the fee, it is a charge associated with the venue not the Disc Jockey.

CDJA Canadian Disc Jockey Association
Is a professional organization that is looking to raise the standards of Disc Jockey companies across Canada. Each company that is a member has to have liability insurance and be AVLA licensed. There are meetings which are held on a regular basis which keep you informed of the latest technology and products on the market. Although you are in direct competition with these other companies for business it is a great way to network. When your company may not have a Disc Jockey available for an event you can always recommend another company within the CDJA because you know they have a good reputation as well.
